What you should look for in a quality dish drainer
Below I have compiled some helpful tips for anyone looking to get a quality dish drainer, in my experience when it comes to buying one you should have the following things in mind.
Features you should look for:
- When I look for a good dish drainer the first thing I look for is a drainer which can fit the amount of dishes, plates etc. that I want to fit. I also like to buy dish racks which come with a cutlery box attached, this is really handy, it will save you both space and time.
- The second thing I look at is how easy the drainer is to store. I don’t know about the situation you may be in, but for someone like me with a small kitchen having a dish drainer which can be put away after usage is very important to me. When you are buying your next sink drainer make sure that is a priority. It is amazing how much space some of them can take up and this is especially annoying when you need to prepare food in the kitchen and it is taking up your counter space.
- Another important factor is how easy it is to clean. Although many may not even think of this when buying a sink drainer it is very important, because a dish drainer can become a growing place for bacteria which can damage your dishes and also cause an awful smell in your kitchen. Some dish drainers are stubborn and to clean them you need to be strong willed a firm handed (lots of scrubbing), but others can be easily cleaned by just a short rinse with warm water. If you don’t want to have to scrub the heck out of your dish drainer, and then pick one which can be easily cleaned, it is important.
- Watch out for rust. I had a one awhile back which became rusty and it ended up causing some damage to my plates, it also looked terrible. Nowadays most dish racks will be non-rust, but to be careful you should check before you buy anyway. If you are buying a plastic dish drainer then you will have no problem, but if you are buying stainless steel dish drainer make sure it has been made rust proof or you will be throwing it away after a while.
- Make sure the size of the kitchen drainer you buy is compatible with the size of your kitchen. If you are buying an in sink or over the sink dish drainer then you need to make sure it will fit. Luckily, these days many of them are adjustable so you shouldn’t have to worry. If you are buying an out of the sink dish drainer then make sure it is not so big that it will take up your whole kitchen counter, if you have a lack of space then buy one which can be stored easily.
- Make sure you check customer reviews carefully. In my review posts I always talk about the importance of customer reviews and I am still adamant about this. One of the reasons I love Amazon is because of this, you will often find that the answers to all your questions are in the customer comments, make sure you check them.
- I think price should be the last consideration you make, because if you buy on price alone you are likely to buy an inferior product. Remember that a good dish drainer will last you a long time and the original investment will definitely be repaid. I also think that sink drainers really are not expensive, so you shouldn’t fret over the price (just my opinion).
